Psychiatric- Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Laura Howe is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) who is proud to provide services to residents of Ankeny and surrounding areas. Laura is a graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical Center and received her master of science degree in nursing (MSN) in 2014. She has been a practicing PMHNP since 2015. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, she had 5 years of experience as a registered nurse in acute mental health inpatient settings. Her first experience in caring for patients began at the age of 16 as a nurse’s assistant (CNA) in a rural nursing home. She is registered with the State of Iowa Board of Nursing, State of Iowa Board of Pharmacy, and credentialed with the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Laura is particularly passionate about treating the adult population. As a mental health provider, Laura can prescribe medications as treatment, but will also recommend non-pharmacologic interventions as appropriate. She has a great interest in learning about each patient’s personal goals and wishes to support each patient in reaching them. Laura will collaborate with other members of the patient’s care team in order to help ensure the best outcomes for every patient.

When Laura is not at work, she most enjoys time with her family and friends. She loves to travel and share new experiences with her husband and two children. She also thoroughly enjoys cooking and finding new recipes. Laura and her family also enjoy cycling, walks, live music, and watching Netflix with her pug, Beans.
